[Action]

[As per usual, Yuri's spending his morning today in the battle dome ... although, for those who've seen him in there a decent amount of times, they may notice something different. Like the fact that he seems to be using a mid-sized axe instead of a sword this time around. It even seems to be making some of his artes look and act a little differently as well.

He also has a sword leaning against the room he's using - namely the katana Luke got him for Christmas. Occasionally, during breaks in his training, he'll wander over to it and pick it up, as if thinking about something related to it, but he always ends up putting it back down again.

Feel free to interrupt his session at any point! The monsters he's fighting don't seem to be challenging him very much, to begin with.]

Got a bit of a question for everyone. Which do you think is better - swords, or axes?

As for you all, I figured I should let you know that I'll be trying to do a little recruiting around the end of the month. I'm planning on doing the usual through-the-journal kind, but if anyone's got a better idea, let me know.

... Actually, if anyone's got any ideas for the guild at all, now's a good time to tell me. Especially if it'd help us stand out a little more as something other than some kind of construction group.

I like axes.

Definitely swords. Axes can have the advantage of looking a lot more impressive, but swords are a lot more versatile and can be used in a wider variety of fighting styles.

I'd say swords, but I think guns are the best kind of weapon.

Mm, come to think of it I haven't seen axes used for fighting very much. Guess I'll go with swords.

I'll admit that rods can be pretty dangerous if you use them a certain way, but otherwise ... well, I'll just take your word for it. [ ... ] ... But, y'know, I've never really seen an axe-user around, either. It almost makes me want to use them more just to say I can.

What's so cool about standing in one spot away from the enemy? You might as well be throwing rocks from the sidelines, or something.

We need more women in the guild. It'd attract more men, and the other women won't feel so intimidated. Win - win situation with more beautiful ladies around.

... Something about building a sign to say that we don't just build things sounds a little counter-productive to me.

Hey, you asked for ideas.

Well, that depends. [He chuckles a bit--not so much at you, Yuri, as simply at the breadth of the question.] If you're talking about compressive strength, yes, axes are generally made out of materials that can take higher pressing forces. As for tensile strength, swords perform better. It comes down to whether you want something that's very effective at penetrating tough materials or something with the bendability to cut and be extracted from different angles.

Unless you're commonly going up against enemies in full armor or wanting the option of dismantling fortifications, I'm in favor of swords. It's much easier to attack and block quickly with a sword, and you can often switch between slicing and stabbing moves depending on situation. Besides, it tends to be easier to carry swords around, just due to the shape of the blade.

[Normally, Yuri would just sigh and say that he's not adding more women to the guild just so Raven has something to look at.

... I guess we could use a few more women in the group to even things out a little. It's probably getting a little awkward for Sheena, with her being the only one left.

Yeah, because that would work and not make me look like some kind of desperate creep.

Guess I should just focus on stressing the whole "we don't just build things" part and hope that works ...

... Yeah, I guess so. [sigh] I guess we could try to put in some kind of reward system or something, but in a place like this ... kinda tough to pull off.

I find both to be perfectly good weapons, but I personally favor swords.

Ja--we have been making strides in using lighter alloys lately without decreasing compressive strength much, so they're not always very heavy, but the shape of them remains a problem. I've seen some nice holsters for axes, but they're still awkward to carry and nearly impossible to conceal.

Of course if you get on the subject of weapons that are concealable and pretty versatile, I do have a preference for firearms. They're not the most, how do I say...artistic weapons ever, but they're very effective in many contexts.

If the building part bothers ya so much, then stop takin' on jobs that mean we gotta make stuff! It's kind of very simple logic.
